He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorene Elizabeth (Shaffer) Upperman; his children, Dolores Jane Upperman of Akron, OH, Margaret Elaine Upperman of Oakland and Eric Upperman and wife Maria of Oakland; grandchildren, Heather Smith, April DeBarr, Billy Lloyd, Vicki Wilt and husband William II, Bryson Upperman and Leighann Upperman; great grandchildren, Cree Lloyd, Kristin Wilt and William Wilt III; and a sister, Lola Jones of Danville, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mona Hebb and Faye King and a brother, Elvin Upperman.
