Obituary of Michael Lee Friend

Michael Lee Friend, 69, of Oakland died on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at his home.  Born on July 18, 1947, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Arnold B. and Alta G. (Reckart) Friend.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War.  Mike had worked as a diesel mechanic for Sisler Lumber Company.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He liked to relax and enjoy eating pizza and watching movies.  He will be remembered as one who was willing to give anyone a hand.  He is survived by a daughter, Kalendra “Kellie” Friend of Frostburg; two sons, Jesse Friend and Jamie Friend and wife Melita, both of Oakland; four grandchildren, Makaily, Ainsley, Lincoln and Quintin; a sister, Annis Friend Colaw; two brothers, Darvin Friend and wife Eleanor and Richard Friend and wife Betty; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, April 28th from 5 to 7 PM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Carl Fike officiating.  Military honors will be accorded by the US Army and the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077.  Interment will take place in the Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery on a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 602 Furnace St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
