He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene Faye (Bittinger) Friend; two sons, Michael Friend of Fredericksburg, VA and Gary Friend and wife Danita of Oakland; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Thomas and husband William of Oakland; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Friend and William “Bill” Friend, both of Oakland; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Friend and a grandson, Anthony Lee Friend.
