Obituary of Jean Sollars

KITZMILLER — Jean McKean Sollars, 94, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at Oakland Manor Assisted Living, Sykesville, following an extended illness. She was born March 30, 1915 in Kitzmiller, to the late Robert John and Minnie (Beals) McKean. She graduated from Kitzmiller High School in 1933 and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing diploma program, Cumberland. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kitzmiller. Jean resided for many years in Oakland, employed by Garrett Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. She worked in both staff and management positions until her retirement. Post retirement she moved to Kitzmiller, where she enjoyed gardening and traveling. She also enjoyed her cottage at Deep Creek Lake, with boating and water skiing. Jean is survived by four nieces and one nephew, Mary Winters, Braddock Heights, Jean Workman, Shepardstown, W.Va., Laudene Treshnell, Mill Valley, Calif., Nancy Dudash, Sykesville and Robert McKean, Phoenix, Ore.; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Norman, Elk Garden, W.Va. and Pauline Ridder, Keyser, W.Va.; one brother, Robert D. McKean, Phoenix; and a long time companion and friend, Donald Trevorrow, Morgantown, W.Va. Per her wishes she was created. A memorial service will be held on Monday April 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Nethken Hill Methodist Church in Elk Garden, WV with Carol Sweitzer officiating. The interment of ashes will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church St., Kitzmiller, MD is in charge of the arrangements.
