To my cousin Sydney, and to all members of the Thayer family, deepest condolences. Tom was definitely a member in good standing of "the greatest generation". His accomplishments and dedication to his community are testament to the quality of his person. Most importantly his kindness and friendly personality will always be remembered by anyone who met him. God bless him and again, my regrets on your loss.

Tom, Jerry, Syd, & family:
Very sorry to hear about RT. He and dad had some good times together and are probably sharing some laughs right now. That, a good drink, or maybe out hunting. I used to love listening to them tell their stories, and I'm sure I didn't get to hear all of them! Hopefully those and other memories help you through this time of loss. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Joyce

Jerry, Tommy & Family:
As time passes, there will be lots of RT memories to recall and enjoy. Since we met all of you some 20 years ago, we have always felt like family, and we feel your loss. Even though we all knew RT's health was failing, this still came as a shock to us. To all of you from all of us Twenteys - Mark, Peter, Troy (get out of the kitchen!), Ron & me - our love and prayers.

Tom, Jerry, Family & Friends:
These few words cannot begin to express my saddness and sympathy. As I write these words my thoughts run like a wild pony across the open spaces of many, many years. They were great years, especially in the 60's and 70's as RT and I, along with others, were heavily engaged in the promotion of Garrett County's tourism and recreation industry... sort of the "pioneer days" if you will... days that coincide with Sky Valley, Four Hoophole, Garrettland, etc., but foremost for Garrett County's future. We sat for many hours and worked out plans and details that throughout the years have come to fruition in ways we never dreamed or considered. One of the lasting monuments to those times for all of us was during the time we founded the Autumn Glory Festival. It remains a tribute to RT today and a small, but very visible legacy to him as well as to all of us who unleased the creative energies, planning, leg-work, and "grunt" needed to establish something that has become so lasting and historic over more than 40 years of our shared community life. Both Mary and I always enjoyed being in the presence of RT and sharing in his personal brand of humor, but more importantly, his wisdom and his "caring" which he branded with his own "RT" brand---unlike any other we have ever known---a tribute to his personality and his uinqueness. Our thoughts and prayers abide during this time while the "ocean of good memories" continues to sustains us in our own personal feelings of sorrow and loss. God Bless, I. Lynn Beckman (and Mary, too)

Dear Tom, Jerry and Family,
I have so enjoyed working with your dad. His vision and compassion for all in his community lead the way to creating some of the best affordable, workforce housing anywere in America. His accomplishments are tangible and will live on making the lives of hundreds of Garrett County families appreciably better.
RT was a person who by the way he lived represents how an individual can bring about positive change. His humor and ability to see a straight line in a complicated process made him a pleasure to work with. He truly was a one of a kind, larger than life figure.
I feel fortunate to have met and worked with RT. All of us at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community celebrate his accomplishments and will miss him.

RT's legacy will live on through, not only his visionary work in 4HS, Sky Valley but through his wonderful family that I have the privilege to know and love. God bless you all through this difficult time.
I remember that RT, Ken Durst and I took a real estate course together at the college and I had the pleasure to invite both to my home for lunch. He seem to really enjoy simply sitting in my backyard and I enjoyed spending a special quiet moment with him. He called me "the barefoot girl from Swallow Falls".
This "barefoot girl" was given an opportunity to work at Garrettland which changed my life in a positive way forever. I will always be grateful for that and hold great affection for him and the entire Thayer family.
Love you all and will miss him terribly, Donna Sites

Jerry and Family,
So very sorry to hear of your dad passing. I used to work for you both in 1993. RT was a tough boss to work for but fair. If you missed a comma in a letter; he didn't miss it and he would be sure to tell you about it. ha! ha! He would be proud to know that I used my Army GI Bill to go to WVU. I graduated with honors and earned a bachelors degree in social work. I am now a licensed social worker in West Virginia and the direct service coordinator/counselor at a domestic violence center where I have been for going on 11 years. A long time ago, you and your dad gave a WV girl who was going through a rough time and a divorce; a job that she needed very badly. I will always be thankful for that experience. Jerry you were a good boss and thank you for giving me that chance. May your dad rest in peace and may God bless you and your family. I hope you see this or someone shows it to you.
Sincerely, Michelle White-Curtis-Whitehead

Dear Tommy, Jerry, and Family,
We were shocked to call home today and learn of your father's passing. Somehow, although we were aware of his health problems, like Henry (Dad), we just always felt he would be with us forever. He was such a special person and always made us feel an important part of his life each time we ran into one another.
Butch will always treasure the memories from your excursion to Alaska as one of the most momentous and enjoyable times ever with friendships we have not taken time to nurture well but have held near to our hearts. R.T. never forgot the salmon dinner I prepared after your return and continuously complimented my cooking which meant so much coming from such an excellent chef.
He loved all of you so much as it showed in his eyes each time he spoke of his family. Our thoughts and prayers are truly with you even though we are so far away. We will call as soon as we return from Cabo San Lucas.
In friendship and sympathy we remain,
Butch and Amy
