I am very sorry about James. He must have had many good memories while he was a member of the clubs. One Bible scripture that comforts me is Revelation 21:4. It says-"He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. the former things will have passed away."
I hope you will be comforted by the many good times you must have had.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Simms. I believe I told him what a positive influence he was on my life, but I''m not sure he was aware of the full impact. As a young girl raising a baby beef (the first in Garrett Co.) I was ridiculed and given a hard time. He would not allow me to be affected by the taunts and whispers. He made sure I was well prepared for the ground breaking experience for me and the "old guard". He also gave encouragement and taught me well when I was, again, the first female to judge livestock at the county level. He made me feel so capable that we did really well at the state level. When it came time for awards he gave me a 4-H pen knife, just as he had given the boys. He told me he knew I would be upset if he gave me some "girly" thing.
When I graduated, he and Jane gave me a beautiful compact. I had never had such a beautiful accessory. I carried it to all my dances and other special occasions. I still have it.
As a college student he told us we could plan a collegiate 4-H camp. You know, when he told us we could do something, we knew we could! He made me confident enough that I could be U of M 4-H president and a National 4-H winner.
I planned to become an extension agent, but things change. I became a teacher, then a counselor. I used the philosophy he taught me. If you prepare the kids well and believe in them and support them, they can perform and live beyond their expections. I thank him for that!
I always wanted to thank Jane for allowing Mr. Simms to spend so much time and effort on us. We appreciated it and will never forget him.
Sincerely,
Joanny Jones Martin

Jane -
I was saddened to read about Jim''s death. I have so many fond memories of him from 4-H to babysitting for your family when I was a teenager to working at Green Acres the summer after I graduated from high school. All of those memories came flooding back when I learned of his death. I will hold you and your family in my prayers as you mourn his loss and hope that you take comfort in all the contributions he made to the community and the ways he touched the lives of young people, including my own.
