He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Swick) Friend; two sons, Donald Friend Jr. and wife Lorie and Steve Friend and wife Debbie, all of Oakland; one daughter, Linda Nugent and husband Randy, of Oakland; twelve grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Callis and a grandson, Joshua Friend.
