Daaayybeee. Daybee. I will hear her words in that mountain accent calling my name for the rest of my life. Aunt Patty meant so much to me. Playing in the river where I wasn’t supposed to be, fetching a switch for the whipping I deserved (you got to come home sometime, she would say), or simply eating the most delicious green beans in the world are but a few of the many memories I cherish. I will miss so much the things we often took for granted at the time… the hugs she gave me, holding her hand as she told me stories, or simply sitting on the front porch talking. Aunt Patty, I love you. You will be in my heart forever and ever.
