Obituary of Charles Newhall

Charles W. “Sonny” Newhall, Jr., 78, died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on January 30, 1935 in Garrett Park, he was the son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Ruth (Edmonston) Newhall. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a hospital corpsman and was a retired firefighter for the Kensington, MD VFD. Sonny had served on the Garrett County Forestry Board and the Maryland Acres for Wildlife Cooperative. In 1987, he was honored as Outstanding Tree Farmer for Garrett County, the state of Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Patricia (McHale) Newhall; five children, Laura J. Metzker and husband Kenneth of Cumberland, Thomas W. Dietrich and wife Tamera of Frederick, Natalie R. Smith and husband Stephen of Deer Park, Charles A. “Andy” Newhall of Oakland and Audrey P. Logan and husband Joseph of Anaconda, MT; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. According this his wishes, Sonny was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Service Information
