He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Phyllis (Murphy) Friend; two sons, Chester E. Friend and Gerald E. Friend, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Haggerty, Destiny Friend, Harlee Friend and Jacob Friend; two great grandchildren, Axel Haggerty and Annabella Grace Haggerty; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dayton Chester Friend and Thomas Richard Friend. Gerald was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
