What a kind and sweet mother in law. I could not have picked a sweeter flower. I'm proud to have called her my mother in law. Most important was the godly example she set everywhere she went. I'm thankful for that godly example because I have her godly son as my husband and if it were not for her teaching him about her God he would not be the man he is today. She showered her Sunday school children with love and kindness and taught them about Jesus. She will be missed but oh the memories she has left behind. Until we meet again!

Mom was amazed at all there was to be amazed at. She won the Danforth Science Award at graduation from Oakland High School. After high school she went to college and became a teacher; she loved sharing her discoveries with others so that they could share in the wonders that she herself had discovered.
Mom found great satisfaction and joy in the little things in life. In the presence of something spectacular she would notice an unusual bird or interesting cloud formation. If she had a financial report in her hands she would notice a pattern in the numbers.
The thing that was the most fascinating and precious to her was her savior, Jesus Christ. She was in wonder of Him.
After getting married in 1955 she came to Deep Creek Baptist Church and continued to teach children in Sunday School for the next 60 years. In some cases she taught three generations over the years. She taught 4 and 5 year olds because at that age children are still willing to be fascinated and in wonder.
Jesus said in Matthew 18: And he called to him a little child, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me: But whoso shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it is profitable for him that a great millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depth of the sea.
I was blessed to have been born into a family with such a teacher. She taught Martha and me many things. I learned Roman numerals before going to first grade and my teacher wasn’t pleased when I did my math homework that way. I learned to read books, many books and was fascinated. I learned about birds and kittens and other creatures great and small. I learned to be fascinated by things growing from the earth.
Many of the lessons that she taught me were forgotten for a season but returned after I became old enough to appreciate what I had learned.
The most valuable lesson that she taught me was about her God. She made sure that I learned His book and spent time with His people. When the time was right her God became my God and this is the greatest gift she ever gave me. This far surpasses even the date filled cookies that I got each year for my birthday.

What better time for a lovely Christian lady to enter God's Kingdom than the celebration of Mother's Day.
Nina and Paul lived out Paradise Point Road from my family in Maryland. Fond memories of Garrett County living include their family: making peach ice cream, canoeing on the lake, biking on the C & O Canal, worshiping at Deep Creek Baptist Church, spelunking Crabtree Cave (thank you Mark!), and riding along taking Martha to St. Mary's College.
Time shared with them enriched my life with valuable lessons full of love, laughter, encouragement, patience, acceptance and mostly purpose that streamed into raising my own children.
May God welcome Nina and bless her family as well as those who loved her. How very great her heart!

How bright was the light shed by Nina's life, to us, and to everyone whose lives she touched. As we wrote Mark and Carol,
"Our minds pile high with so many adjectives it is hard to think of containing the list: steady, faithful, kind, loving, peaceable, humble, gentle, self-giving, wise, patient, industrious, loving servant of God and Man."
