He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth (Lewis) Friend; two children, Charles “Chuck” Friend and wife Lois of Oakland and Lois Bailey and husband Gary of Jacksonville, MD; four grandchildren, Jennifer Friend-Robinson and husband Rob, Ben Friend and wife Brittany, Zach and Zoe Bailey; one great granddaughter, Makenzie Friend and a sister, Mary Shafer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Maxine Kauten, Nina Liller, Beulah Wilt and Sara Thurston; three brothers, William, George, and Clifford Friend.
